50 Kinyara Staff
undergo Fire Fighting drills
In any organization, ensuring the safety and well-being of
your employees and customers is of paramount importance, says Moses Basoga Kabira
Kinyara Sugar Limited Human Resources Manager.
When it comes to fire safety, one of the most effective
measures you can implement in your workplace is having a robust fire
suppression system in place. However, simply installing these systems is not
enough to guarantee their effectiveness – it is also crucial to recognize the
importance of training your staff on fire suppression systems to maximize their
potential and minimize the risks associated with fire incidents.
Kinyara Sugar Limited’s management thinks that training
staff on fire suppression systems equips them with the knowledge and skills
needed to respond swiftly and appropriately in case of a fire emergency, as
this can allow them to learn how to operate fire extinguishers, activate fire
alarms, and use other suppression equipment effectively. It is for this reason
that the management allowed for the conducting of this training of 50 fire
fighters.
Proper training also included understanding the behaviour of
fire, evacuation procedures, and how to prevent fires from spreading. By
investing in comprehensive training programs, Kinyara Sugar Limited empowered
its employees to take immediate action, potentially saving lives and minimizing
property damage.

Themed, “30 years of progressive policy advocacy for the
Industrial sector to realize the National Vision 2040 and 2021/26 NRM manifesto
objectives,” the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) held her inaugural
National Pre-budget Breakfast Dialogue at the UMA show grounds, Lugogo.
The dialogue sought to highlight the progress and challenges
of Uganda’s manufacturing sector over the last 30 years and to brainstorm on
strategies that can facilitate industrialization and promote regional trade.
The National Development Plan III (NDP III) prioritizes
industrialization as a key driver for Uganda’s prosperity in line with Vision
2040. Currently, Uganda boasts over 7,000 factories, up from 1,289 in 1994,
making the manufacturing sub-sector the largest contributor to GDP at 19.3%
Mr. Deo J.B Kayemba – UMA Chairman, while delivering his
opening remarks, pointed that Uganda’s economy has expanded to a GDP of USD 50
billion (Shs.185 trillion) as of June 2023, and it is projected to expand
further to USD 55 billion by June 2024.
He called upon Government of Uganda to support the
manufacturing sector through Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) to set up key
primary industries.
“In order to grow our economy by 12% as envisaged in the NDP
III, manufacturers must be clearly supported,” he echoed.
Aldon Walukamba, Communications Manager Kinyara Sugar
Limited voiced the concern of locally manufactured sugar not being protected adequately.
This issue has seen locally brown and white sugar manufactured in Uganda demand
slump in the recent months.
This caught the ears of government officials who promised to
address it immediately.
