Regulatory Impact
Assessment for Sugar Sector on-going
Kinyara Sugar Limited attended the Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) program at Nature Resort in the Wakiso district.
The RIA was formed to have discussions and write a report that will inform policy and legislation in Uganda's sugar sector.
The Sugar Policy of 2010 and the Sugar Act 2020 are Uganda's only policies and legislation for the sugar sector; however, they have been deemed to be deficient in many areas.
The Sugar Act Amendment Bill of 2023, which is now being debated in Uganda's Parliament, requires careful analysis in order to adequately serve all stakeholders in Uganda's sugar business.
Aldon Walukamba, Kinyara Sugar Limited Communications Manager, was present at the RIA workshop.
“We discussed and tabled issues ranging from land acquisition for sugarcane growing, growing sugarcane, harvesting, transportation, processing, and adding value. What are the issues and what causes them in order to understand the actions and options to apply for the report," said Aldon.
